Senator Cynthia Marie Lummis Wiederspahn (R) is an American politician. She is serving as a junior US Senator from Wyoming. She was a member of the state’s House of Representatives. She also served in the Wyoming Senate before her election to the US House of Representatives.

Lummis was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on September 10, 1954. Senator Cynthia Lummis attended Cheyenne East High School. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from the University of Wyoming in 1976. After her Bachelor’s degree, she worked as a teacher at the Rock River School. She also received a Bachelor’s degree in Biology in 1978. She furthered and received a law degree from the University of Wyoming in 1985.

Lummis started her political career in 1978. She became a member of the Wyoming House of Representatives. She represented Laramie County in the state legislature. She won again in 1980 and served till 1982. She decided not to seek reelection in 1982 but came back to the statehouse in 1984. She served till 1992.

In 1992, Senator Cynthia Lummis ran for a seat at the State Senate in Wyoming. She defeated Democratic Elizabeth Byrd in the general election. But, she left the State Senate in 1994 to focus on her family. Yet, in 1998, Lummis announced her decision to run for State Treasurer after Stan Smith stepped down. She won the election.
